India vs Bangladesh Highlights Cricket World Cup 2011

sehwag 175 helped to clear bangladesh

Mirpur, Feb 19:  India beat Bangladesh by 87 runs at Mirpur to start their campaign at the 2011 ICC World Cup on a winning note. India’s heroes for the game were Virender Sehwag (175) and Virat Kohli (100*) whose third wicket partnership set up India’s total of 370/4 in the day/night game.
But Bangladesh did not combust when faced with that imposing target. Their openers Imrul Kayes and Tamim Iqbal brought up the side’s first fifty runs in just under five overs. It was only when Munaf Patel dismissed Kayes (34 off 29 balls) that India managed to stem the flow of runs.
From thereon while Bangladesh did manage to string together some significant partnerships – 73 for the second wicket between Iqbal and Junaid Siddique (37), 59 for the third wicket between Iqbal and Shakib Al Hasan and 46 for the fourth between Shakib and Mushfiqur Rahim – the fact that these runs came well below the asking rate meant that the target was eventually going to be out of reach. Iqbal fell for 70 while Shakib made a brisk 55 off 50 balls, but a loss was inevitable.
The hosts batted out the full 50 overs but could only manage a total of 283/9 in the process. For India, Munaf Patel, who also took the wickets of Iqbal, Mahmudullah (6) and Naeem Islam (2), was the most successful bowler on the night.  Zaheer Khan complemented the Baroda pacer well taking two wickets himself.
Earlier, Bangladesh captain Shakib Al Hasan won the toss and opted to bowl first. The tone of the Indian innings was set right from the first ball of the day. Shafiul Islam, opening the Bangladeshi attack, was dispatched to the cover boundary with disdain by Virender Sehwag. The last ball of the over suffered a similar fate.
Between them, Sachin Tendulkar and Sehwag added 69 for the first wicket before Sachin (28 off 29 balls) was run out owing to an embarrassing lack of communication between the batsmen. Gautam Gambhir came out to partner his Delhi team-mate, who, not very much later, helped himself to a half-century off just 45 balls.
Sehwag and Gambhir took India past the 150-run mark batting at over six runs an over. But Bangladesh offspinner Mahmudullah destroyed any ambitions of stringing together a bigger partnership by bowling Gambhir (39) with the Indian score at 152.
Virat Kohli joined Sehwag in the middle and the two brought up the visitors’ 200 in just 31.2 overs. Sehwag brought up his first century against Bangladesh in the 33rd over of the Indian innings in just 94 deliveries.
With that individual landmark out of the way, Sehwag and Kohli batted with abandon. While the first 34 overs of the Indian innings produced 224 runs (RR 6.58), the last 16 overs went for 146 (RR 9.125). Sehwag eventually fell for an individual score of 175 (140b, 14X4, 5X6), while Virat Kohli brought up his fifth century in ODI cricket off just 83 balls. The 203-run partnership between the two helped India finish their innings at a winning score of 370/4.
Brief scores: India 370/4 in 50 overs (Virender Sehwag 175, Virat Kohli 100*, Mahmudullah 1/49) beat Bangladesh283/9 (Tamim Iqbal 70, Shakib Al Hasan 55, Munaf Patel 4/48, Zaheer Khan 2/41) by 87 runs
Man-of-the-Match: Virender Sehwag for his sizzling knock of 175 (140b, 14X4, 5X6), that set up India’s mammoth score of 370/4.
