Where
Feroz Shah Kotla, Delhi. One cannot be absolutely certain about the nature of the Delhi track. It has seen a score of 300 plus (West Indies against Netherlands) as well as some scores around the 200-run mark (South Africa v West Indies and Kenya v Canada). Yet, given the good form of the Indian batsmen and the relatively small size of the Feroz Shah Kotla ground, one can expect India to emulate the West Indies effort of 330 against the same Dutch side.
The Teams
For India, Piyush Chawla’s bowling form remains an area of concern. In the two games that he has played in the World Cup he has given away 127 runs in 18 overs (just above 7 an over) while taking only two wickets. Peter Borren, the Dutch Skipper, echoed this sentiment by saying, “As I said before that we are disappointed with poor batting in the last two games particularly because I know that we have a strong batting line-up. We are looking for improvement in that area.”
Players to watch out for
Zaheer Khan has been India’s leading wicket-taker at the 2011 ICC World Cup. Bowling at an economy-rate of 4.62, Zaheer has also been relatively frugal in giving away runs. His three wickets against England also help India tie the game in a situation when most believed the side was headed towards defeat. With Zaheer thirteen short of Javagal Srinath’s World Cup wicket tally of 44 wickets as the leading Indian wicket-taker at World Cup competition, expect him to further narrow the gap by the end of this game.
Ryan ten Doeschate has already hit a century at this World Cup. His 110-ball knock of 119 set up an impressive Dutch total of 292 in their opening game against England. But all that seems a long while ago with the Dutch batting having fared miserably in their subsequent two games. Yet, if Doeschate can find his batting form, Netherlands can almost be certain of putting on a better show with the bat.
